Dr Mohamed Alkoheji was conferred with his medical degree (MB BCh BAO LRCPI/SI NUI) from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland in 2006.
Following completion of his internship at Beaumont Hospital in Dublin, he moved back to Bahrain to commence junior residency in Trauma and Orthopaedics at the Bahrain Defence Force Hospital. It is during this time that he gained the Membership of the Royal College of Surgeons of England (MRCS) in 2010.
A move to London followed in 2011, where he spent his registrar training years at King's College Hospital, gathering the necessary experience and knowledge to apply for the fellowship examinations. He successfully obtained the Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of England in Trauma and Orthopaedics (FRCS Tr&Orth) in 2017. At King's he was inspired to develop his interest and skills in Hand surgery by the talented duo of Mr Ramon Tahmassebi and Mr John Compson.
Subsequently he moved to University College London Hospital where he worked as an upper limb fellow before being accepted as the Shoulder Fellow to Mr Carlos Cobiella (and Mr Simon Lambert). This allowed him the opportunity to hone his craft in advanced elective arthroscopic and open surgical reconstruction of the shoulder and elbow. He also worked with Mr Cobiella in the prestigious private sector in Central London at the Princess Grace Hospital in Marylebone and the Hospital of St John and St Elizabeth in St John's Wood. During this two year period he also had regular outpatient clinics at the Institute for Sport, Exercise and Health (ISEH), a centre of excellence for the treatment of high level athletes such as premier league rugby players and Team GB of the Olympic Games.
A final fellowship was undertaken in 2019 at The Royal London Hospital, London's busiest major trauma centre, under the tutelage of Mr Livio Di Mascio, upper limb lead for Barts Health NHS Trust. This involved a wide range of complex trauma injuries of the entire upper limb as well as independent elective surgery lists.
In 2020, Dr Mohamed Alkoheji started his full time private practice in the Kingdom of Bahrain. Using the extensive experience gained during his time abroad he aims to introduce exciting new advances in the treatment of common and complex upper limb disorders.
